What will I learn from the Shoestring Digital skills module?

The Shoestring module will demystify low-cost tech and equip participants with the knowledge and tools required to build and deploy their own digital solution in their company. In this way participants, and their companies, will experience first-hand the impact digitalisation could have on helping their company meet sustainability goals.

Shoestring supported activity will include:

  • In-person workshop to help identify business needs and digital starter solutions to meet them
  • The framework to help participants include colleagues in the selection of a business-relevant solution
  • In-person ‘build a solution’ training session
  • Online support, and weekly check-in calls to support deployment of the solution in the company.
  • Impact workshop to help participants review the activity, lessons learnt and the tangible and intangible business impacts of the solution. Follow up support will help participants prepare a final impact presentation for their colleagues.

What is a Shoestring starter solution?

All Shoestring’s starter solutions are built using low-cost tech and have a business impact. The process of learning to build and deploy them helps companies to improve their digital skills and confidence. In addition, the experience enables them to discover how low risk solutions can contribute to improved productivity, quality and efficiency, can help reduce waste as well as save energy and money. Participants will choose from Shoestring’s range of starter solutions.

Who should attend?

The courses are suitable for employees within businesses of all sizes and industries, as well as professionals in managerial or decision-making roles who are interested in integrating sustainability principles into their organisation’s operations.

How much will the course cost?

The courses are subsidised by the Department for Education as part of the Skills for Life Programme. Cost of attendance ranges from £280 to £840 per person depending on the size of the business.
