Digitalisation for Further Education providers

Located at the heart of the local business community,
further education (FE) colleges can use Shoestring to
bring digital innovation into companies.

The Shoestring for FE programme enhances learners work placements by offering a structured set of activities to realise digital projects that add real value to local businesses. This practical training is prepared to run alongside the college curricula of the academic year across six sessions.

Programme Sessions

This session is designed to understand Shoestring and its importance for local manufacturing SMEs, the opportunities Shoestring brings to FE students and how Shoestring solutions benefit manufacturers who adopted them.

This session is designed to introduce Shoestring, learn about different Shoestring solutions, understand which digitalization problems Shoestring solutions can solve, give examples of businesses who adopted them and provide a live demonstration of the technology.

This session is designed to scope low-cost digitalisation projects aimed at deploying Shoestring solutions in companies. This includes identifying digital needs, prioritization, solution selection as well as capturing use cases.

  • Company representatives
  • Teachers and tutors

This is a practical activity aimed at college learners with support from college teaches and tutors. The goal of this session is to train learners to build and configure Shoestring solutions, to learn how to read and interpret data dashboards, to learn how to produce data files and to prepare learners before deploying solutions in companies.

This is a practical activity aimed at college learners with support from company staff. The goal of this session is to install in companies the Shoestring solutions built by learners. Learners would visit companies and guide engineers to install solutions and brief the company representatives on how to operate the solution dashboards.
